Let’s start the New Year’s resolutions off on the right hiking foot! Join us to work up a sweat and burn some calories while taking in the splendors of the Franklin Mountains State Park.

This year we will be hiking the Upper Sunset trail. This easy to moderate hike takes you along a low ridgeline wet of the Tom Mays Park Access road. While there are some short steep inclines and declines, you are rewarded with great views of the valley. The observant hiker will also spot a variety of fossils in our limestone, but remember to leave them where you find them for other visitors to enjoy.

Please call (915) 444-9121 to make a reservation as the hike will be capped at 20 participants.

Meeting Location: Southern Lower Sunset Trailhead. When you enter Tom Mays, stop by the Visitor Center and let the Ranger on duty know you are part of the hike. This is where you will pay the fee. Take the first sharp left after passing the booth and find a parking space.

Length: 3 miles round trip

Difficulty level: Moderate - difficult.

Bring: Water, snacks, sturdy hiking shoes/boots; optional: hiking stick, camera, binoculars, a map.
