Join us as we celebrate Dia de los Muertos in the Downtown Arts District! Visit the Museum of Art and History Museum for other programs from 11a-9p, and parade starting at 4pm.

Our 2 hour workshop will teach the cultural origins of “Alebrijes,” a popular Mexican folk art that was featured in the hit Disney film “Coco.” Imagined in 1930 by paper mache artist Pedro Linares, the concept of the other worldly fantastical hybrid animals with brightly colored geometric patterns spread across Mexico and has since been adopted by Oaxacan wood workers.

Using minor origami folds, participants will be guided in transforming 2D laser cut paper into 3D animal masks. Participants will then have the opportunity to unleash their wild side and personalize their masks with bright fluorescent colors and materials.
