The Young Women’s Preparatory Network and the Young Women’s Leadership Academy commemorate the International Day of the Girl Child by hosting the Day of the Girl Celebration

EL PASO, TEXAS, October 21, 2023—The Young Women’s Preparatory Network and the Young Women’s Leadership Academy are hosting an educational event, the Day of the Girl Celebration, in honor of the International Day of the Girl Child. The conference will include workshops, panels, and interactive booths. The sessions will focus on girl empowerment, leadership, wellness, college preparation, and career readiness. The girls and their parents are welcomed to join in for different sessions and lunch. The event will take place Saturday, October 21st from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm at the Young Women’s Leaders Academy, Commons, 8040 Yermoland, El Paso, TX 79907.

International Day of the Girl Child is an international observance declared on October 11 by the United Nations. The observance supports more opportunity for girls and increases awareness of gender inequality faced by girls worldwide based on their gender. Sixty percent of undernourished people worldwide are girls or women and, if the current trend continues, one in three girls are expected to be the target of some form of gender-based violence during their lifetime. Girls are breaking boundaries and barriers posed by stereotypes and exclusion, including those directed at children with disabilities and living in marginalized communities. Globally, the percentage of females among Science Technology Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) graduates is below 15 per cent in over two-thirds of countries. We support empowering young women through college preparation and educating them on an active, healthy lifestyle.
