Grupo Folklorico Valle del Sol will be presenting its annual production for Dia de los Muertos on Saturday, October 28 and Sunday, October 29 at the historic Old Mesilla Plaza in Mesilla, New Mexico. Hosted by the Calavera Coalition, this free family-friendly event includes arts and crafts, food, entertainment, and the display of various altars (ofrendas). Valle del Sol’s hour-long productions includes music and dances representing the migration of the monarch butterflies in which legend says the spirits of our dearly departed arrive on their wings. The production also includes a skeletal bride and groom, representation of “La Catrina,” the women of the Mexican Revolution, and skeletal children. Musical selections include traditional tunes such as “La Llorona,” “La Bikina,” La Raspa,” and more. This comical yet emotional performance will leave you awe inspired to return home and memorialize your loved ones who are to journey home for a glorious reunion on November 2nd.
